The place

Alpine bivouac with 6 bunks on a col below Mt Earnslaw/Pikirakatahi, overlooking the Rees Valley in Mount Aspiring National Park (Otago, near Queenstown), at 2,150 m. Owned by the New Zealand Alpine Club, which maintains it and keeps it open to the public. Standard Backcountry Hut Passes and DOC hut tickets do not apply here: booking and payment are made directly via the NZAC's online system. High avalanche-risk terrain from May to November — check the New Zealand Avalanche Advisory conditions before any approach.
