Esk Bivouac

The place

Basic 2-bunk bivouac (canvas beds) managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in the Lochinvar Forest Conservation Area, north Canterbury (South Island, New Zealand), at 1,118 metres elevation. Free access. Crosses a pastoral lease requiring prior permission: contact the Arthur's Pass National Park Visitor Centre. No DOC-marked trail: self-navigation required with map, compass and GPS. Unbridged crossings: exercise caution in the event of a flood.
