Elcho Hut

The place

Standard DOC hut with 12 bunks in Ruataniwha Conservation Park (Canterbury), at 733 m. Hut managed by the New Zealand Alpine Club, open to the public. 6-7 hour access over 18 km up the Hopkins Valley from the Ram Hill carpark at the end of Lake Ohau Road. **Backcountry Hut Passes and standard DOC hut tickets are not accepted** — booking and payment go directly through the NZAC online shop (shop.alpineclub.org.nz).
