The place

Mountain shelter managed by the Naturfreunde Grenzach-Wyhlen in the Wehratal (Black Forest), at 773 m. Built in 1895-1896. Capacity of about 20 people in two dormitories (6 and 14 beds). Common room, kitchen with wood stove, spring water, solar lighting; toilets and woodshed in an outbuilding. Vehicle access limited to one vehicle. Protected forest area. Rates €5-10 per person per night depending on membership; minimum €70 per night, wood surcharge €30 (€60 beyond 5 days), €100 deposit. Closed from November to March.
