The place

DOC serviced hut with 16 bunks at 1,094 m in Arthur's Pass National Park (Canterbury, NZ). 4-6 hour access from Greyneys shelter car park (9.5 km); moderate-difficulty route with river crossings (Bealey, Mingha, Edwards East Branch). Do not attempt in heavy rain. Wood burner, bring your own stove. Fees: adults $25/night, youth $12.50, free under 5. Online booking required (no walk-ups). Radio contact with the visitor centre 8:30 am-4:30 pm.
