The place
Edelrautehütte: An Alpine Rose Nestled in the Heart of the Mountains The Edelrautehütte is a hut belonging to the Austria section of the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV). Nestled in the Rottenmann Tauern in Styria, on a moraine hill on the shore of the small Scheibelsee lake, near the Scheibelalm, at an elevation of 1725 meters. It was built in 1925 and 1926 to replace the Edelrauthütte, located in the Italian part of the Zillertal Alps and expropriated after the First World War. The hut offers a dormitory with 28 places as well as private rooms totaling another 28 beds. An unlocked emergency room is available. Access and Routes The hut is accessible by a toll road from the village of Hohentauern via hiking trails 902 and 946. It is an important waypoint on the Zentralalpenweg 02, an Austrian long-distance trail from Hainburg an der Donau to Feldkirch. The hut is also the starting point for the Großer Bösenstein (2448 m), the Sonntagskarspitze (2350 m) and the Großer Hengst (2159 m).
