The place
Eckberthütte: A Self-Service Refuge in the Berchtesgaden Alps The Eckberthütte, managed by the Salzburg section of the Austrian Alpine Association, is located at 1,140 m elevation in the Blühnbach valley between the Hagengebirge and the Hochkönig. It is a self-service hut overseen by a hut warden from mid-May to the end of October; during this period, registered mountaineers may also spend the night there (no DAV key, arrangement with the warden required). The Eckberthütte lies in a remote corner of the Berchtesgaden Alps on the Salzburg side, in the privately owned Blühnbach valley (near Tenneck). Access From Tenneck in the Salzach valley, through the Blühnbach valley, the hut is reached in a 4-hour walk. It is an easy path, also suitable for mountain bikes as a forest road.
