DOC hut in the Kaimanawa Range (home of the Kaimanawa Wild Horses heritage, ~300 individuals descended from 19th-century escapees). Beech forest zone, next to Tongariro National Park (UNESCO mixed site 1990, the first site listed under a cultural Māori criterion).
