The place

A slate-built Mountain Bothies Association bothy at 472 m on the slopes of Fleetwith Pike above Honister Pass, in the Lake District (Cumbria). The building sits within the Honister Slate Mine estate. A single large room with a slate floor and roof, fitted with a solid-fuel stove and two wooden sleeping platforms (one person each), spacious enough to accommodate a group sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags. Fully renovated in 2016-2017 by the MBA after previously being described as "soulless and unwelcoming". Free, open access, in the spirit of the Bothy Code: leave the place clean, take your rubbish with you, respect other users.
