The place
The Dr.-Erich-Berger-Hütte is a self-catering hut of the German Alpine Club, Munich section, at 1340 m in the Kitzbüheler Alpen (Tyrol, Austria), on an alpine pasture below the Marchbachjoch. Neighbouring the Rieplalmhütte, above Niederau in the municipality of Hopfgarten im Brixental. Approach villages: Hopfgarten (622 m) in the Brixental and Niederau (824 m) in the Wildschönau. Capacity 24 beds, an ideal family base for weekends and holidays. Heated men's/women's washrooms, toilets, fully equipped kitchen for self-catering. Dr. Erich Berger (1911-1994) was the first chairman of the DAV's Munich section from 1961 to 1984; the hut was named in his honour in 1984.
