Demmevasshytta
The place
Unstaffed DNT Oslo og Omegn cabin on the Hardangerjøkulen glacier, at 1,307 m, near the crevassed waterfalls of Rembesdalskåka. One of the least accessible huts in the DNT Oslo network: requires glacier equipment and skills. Built in 1896 as a construction shelter, purchased by DNT in 1901; staffed in season until 1941, restored in the 1960s. Capacity of 21 beds across four rooms, closed from mid-October to 1 March. Bedding provided, no spare mattresses, no dogs. Self-catering — bring your own food. Advance booking required via info.oslo@dnt.no. Summer access from Finse via Dyrhaugane and Ramnabergbreen, or via Jøkulen through the "09-skardet"; winter access via Luranuten from Finse. The former route via the bottom of Demmevann is no longer passable.
