Daphne Hut

The place

Standard-category DOC hut with twelve bunks, at 629 m in Ruahine Forest Park (Hawke's Bay), on a river terrace about 50 m from the Tukituki River. Built in 1986 by the Takapau Lions Club with support from the Department of Conservation. Rate 10 NZD per adult per night, 5 NZD for 5-17 year olds, free below that, payable with standard hut tickets or an annual Backcountry Hut Pass. No booking. Access: Mill Road, 8 km along the Tukituki River (not advised in high water); Kashmir Road, 2 to 3 h via the Daphne Hut Track (4x4 recommended). Map BL36, NZTM2000 E1868400, N5576923.
