The place
Cave refuge at 908 m in the Valencian Community (Spain), a former resistance cave that served as a shelter for the maquis — anti-fascist guerrillas who fought against the Franco dictatorship after the Civil War (1936-1939). Peak period of activity between 1938 and the 1950s, with the struggle continuing until the deaths of Quico Sabaté (1960) and Ramón Vila (1963). The walls still bear inscriptions and graffiti evoking this period, as well as figurative rock art (anthropomorphic figures, idol plaques) sometimes as old as 4000 years. A historically rich stop on the "Ruta de los Maquis" routes. A simple, unstaffed stopover.
