Crosbies Hut
The place
DOC "Serviced" category hut with 10 bunks at 625 m, built in 2010 in the Coromandel Forest Park (North Island, New Zealand). Panoramic view over the main Coromandel Range: to the north towards Maumaupaki and Mercury Bay, and from the west (Firth of Thames) to Table Mountain and the upper Kauaeranga Valley in the east; the lights of Whitianga are visible at night. Several access routes: two from Thames (Waiotahi and Karaka), two from SH 25 (Te Puru and Waiomu), one from Tapu-Coroglen Road, and one from the Kauaeranga Valley. Allow 4 to 6 hours depending on the track. Mattresses, water, toilets, sanitary facilities, fuel heating. 5 tent sites nearby (max 15 people). Online booking required. Dogs not allowed in the hut (kennels at the nearby campsite). A place of remembrance: a memorial stone for two Swedish hikers who went missing in 1989; historic site of the first settler, Thomas Hunter Crosbie (1880).
