Cristo Sierra
The place
Hermitage-refuge on the high point of the road linking Valcobero to the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Brezo, in the municipality of Velilla del Río Carrión (Montaña Palentina, province of Palencia). The building, which combines a small chapel where votive offerings still remain and a refuge space equipped with drinking water, a fireplace and tables, is reachable by car from Villafría de la Peña (via the Sanctuary del Brezo) as well as from Valcobero. An outdoor picnic area rounds off the facilities. A popular starting point for routes on the Sierra del Brezo, towards the Peñas Mayores and the Peña del Fraile.
