The place
Rifugio Cristina at 2287 m in Valmalenco, in the heart of the Valtellina Alps, in the municipality of Lanzada (province of Sondrio, Lombardy). Set in the vast pastures of the Alpe Prabello. Built in 1924 by Ersilio Bricalli, who dedicated it to his wife Cristina; today run by his great-granddaughters Vania and Valentina (4th generation). Open in summer from June to September, with meals and lodging, home cooking and homemade pastries. Winter opening from December 28 to January 6, then every Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting) until Easter. A base for experienced hikers heading to Pizzo Scalino (3330 m), reachable in about 3 hours. Contact: +39 0342 452398 / +39 339 357 4221.
