The place

Standard six-bunk hut managed by the Department of Conservation (DOC) in Tararua Forest Park, Wairarapa (North Island, New Zealand), at 529 metres elevation, on the Greater Wellington Backcountry Network. Access from Kiriwhakapapa Road end in 5 h, from SH2 at Mt Bruce in 5 h, from Mitre Flats Hut in 3 h 30, from Arete Forks Hut in 4-5 h, or from Roaring Stag Hut in 5 h. Fees until 30 June 2026: NZD 10/night adult, NZD 5 youth (5-17 years), free under 5. No booking required, payment by Standard Hut Ticket deposited in the honesty box or by annual Backcountry Hut Pass.
