Cova d'en Rossell
The place
Natural cave shelter at 1153 m in Catalonia, used as a refuge from at least 1986 (guestbook) until 2013, when refurbishment works began and were later interrupted (on hold since 2016). The cave chamber is among the natural shelters historically used as lodgings by transhumant shepherds, who closed off the base of these shelters to create pens, then built walls up to the natural ceiling to fashion small rooms. A clever arrangement collects the runoff water flowing down the walls. The cave still shows traces of use by feral goat herds that continue to seek out these traditional shelters. Located on the Pedra Colobor route (Àger area).
