Corrour Bothy
The place
Iconic Cairngorms bothy, arguably the most famous in Scotland, nestled at the foot of Cairn Toul and the Devil's Point, halfway along the Lairig Ghru pass on the Mar Lodge Estate (Aberdeenshire). Stone building erected in 1877 as a shelter for deer watchers, occupied until 1920 and then opened to the public; a visitor book has been kept there since 1928 by the Rucksack Club of Dundee. Restored by the Mountain Bothies Association over 18 weekends in 2006 and 2007 (materials airlifted in), the bothy now has a porch, a living room with a small sleeping platform, an efficient fireplace, a wooden floor and sheep's wool insulation on three walls. Below Coire Odhar, on the west bank of the River Dee.
Getting there
A central stage of the Lairig Ghru traverse (from Aviemore or Linn of Dee). Direct access from White Bridge via Glen Lui (about 5 h from Linn of Dee).
