The place
Historic two-room weatherboard cottage, cypress-pine paneling, double brick chimney, corrugated-iron roof, separate rear kitchen, shuttered windows, in Kosciuszko National Park (NSW, Australia), at 1,385 m. Standard NPWS toilet nearby. In 1987 a large branch fell from a nearby tree and crushed half the building; NPWS authorized restoration of the main structure and rear kitchen, carried out thanks to many hours of volunteer work by the KHA. In the 1990s the muddy access track was graveled to allow ordinary vehicle access (with an accompanying rise in graffiti vandalism). Its conservation was celebrated in 1994 by Harry Hill. The site is regularly used by horse riders and groups. Good camping spot. Publication: "Cooinbil — Recollections and Restoration" by Harry Hill (Wilkie Watson, 1995, 114 p.). Jointly managed by the KHA and NSW NPWS.
