The place
Historic 4-bunk DOC hut at 409 m in Fiordland National Park (southern region, NZ), built in 1941. The last "split beech log" hut and one of the last two surviving deer-culler huts in Fiordland. Structure 3.2 x 3.8 m in beech timber, stone fireplace, corrugated iron roof. Access on foot only from Lake Monowai Road or the end of the lake. Didymo present at Lake Monowai but absent from Borland Burn, Green Lake and Grebe River: biosecurity precautions apply.

A bit of history
Built in 1941 by Archie Clark and Allan Cookson for the deer eradication program. Archie Clark, a renowned deer culler and marksman, gave his name to the hut.
