The place

14-bunk DOC "serviced" hut at 802 m in the St James Conservation Area (Canterbury, NZ). Adult rate $25/night, youth 5-17 $12.50, under-4s free; camping $10/$5. Firewood provided (but supplies may run out). Online booking mandatory (until 30 June 2027), no spots held for walk-ins, even on the same day up to 8pm. Backcountry Hut Pass and Te Araroa Trail Pass accepted.
