The place

Small historic shelter of La Pedriza del Manzanares, in the Sierra de Guadarrama national park (commune of Manzanares el Real, Madrid). A rock cavity fitted out around 1912, closed off with a stone wall and lined with wood inside, where the Kindelán Duany brothers — José Antonio, Juan Manuel and Ultano — regularly lived, together with their cousin Pablo Martínez del Rio, who had been discovering this area since 1909. Considered the very first mountain shelter of La Pedriza. The chozo fell out of use around 1916 with the construction of the larger Giner de los Ríos hut. Today it is a heritage site accessible to hikers.
