The place
Restored former shelter for transhumant shepherds, located near the Puerto de Malangosto pass in the northeastern Sierra de Guadarrama, Segovia province side. The stone exterior has been well rebuilt; inside, about half a dozen sleeping bags can be laid out on the floor. A perennial spring, the source of the río Cambrones, rises right nearby and provides water year-round. A free, unstaffed shelter, a classic stop on Guadarrama ridge traverses and winter snowshoe outings toward Peñalara and the Somosierra area.
