Chozo de la Barranca
The place
Small stone structure on the northern flank of the Sierra de Gredos, at 1637 m in the heart of the Garganta del Pinar, on the Cinco Lagunas route from Navalperal de Tormes (province of Ávila). The chozo has a wooden roof, a window and a chimney. Inside, two wooden platforms serve both as seating and sleeping space for about ten people; the stream flowing down from the lagoons runs right alongside and provides water. A free, unstaffed refuge, ideal for splitting up the approach to the Cinco Lagunas. Access via the PR-AV 35 from Navalperal de Tormes (8 km, less than 450 m of cumulative elevation gain).
Getting there
From Navalperal de Tormes via the marked PR-AV 35 trail toward the Cinco Lagunas (8 km, ~450 m elevation gain). Water point at the adjacent stream.
