The place
The Čeples alpine refuge, located at 1435 m altitude in the place of the same name on Mount Dautica, in the Jakupica massif (central North Macedonia). Cabin built in 1952 in a magnificent centuries-old beech forest, surrounded by open meadows covered in ferns, an authentic mountain atmosphere with views of the massif's peaks. Access by train on the Veles-Prilep-Bitola line, getting off at Oreše station, then following the Petle-Papradište-Čepleska reka trail for about 3-4 hours. From the refuge, a classic ascent of about 2 hours leads to Solunska Glava (2539 m), the highest point of the massif and one of the tallest in North Macedonia — a magnificent stony pyramid with a sweeping view over Macedonia and the Balkans. A 2 h excursion to the springs of the Babuna river at Babina Dupka is also possible. A key waypoint on the new Balkan Black Star Transversal (Šara-Korab).
