Chelenalphütte SAC
The place
Historic Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) hut over a century old, set at 2350 m in the Chelenalptal (canton of Uri, municipality of Göschenen, Uri Alps). Remarkable position at the southern foot of the Sustenhorn (3502 m), on a rocky terrace at the head of the valley. Capacity of 30 beds, all equipped with duvets and pillows. An ideal starting point for hiking, climbing and glacial mountaineering routes in the massif. In summer, a classic base for the Sustenhorn traverse; in winter, the area offers numerous ski touring routes including the Urner Haute Route and the ascent of the Sustenhorn. Access from Göschenen station (1107 m): follow the Gotthardstrasse to the village, then continue straight ahead past the power station and into the Göschenertal — 5 to 6 hours' climb for 1540 m of elevation gain. Spectacular mineral and glacial setting of the Uri Alps, emblematic wildlife: ibex, chamois, marmot, golden eagle, bearded vulture.
