The place
The Chatka Puchatka ("Winnie the Pooh's House") is the highest-perched building in the Bieszczady, at 1,228 m altitude on the Połonina Wetlińska (Poland). Formerly known as "Tawerna." Built after the war by the army as an observation post, it was later taken over by the PTTK of Rzeszów in 1956 and opened to tourists from 1967, becoming a cult site that made the massif's reputation. After a long ownership dispute between the PTTK and the Bieszczady National Park (BdPN), the court ruled in favor of the Park in July 2015. A full reconstruction began in spring 2020, reopening on September 24, 2022 under the authority of the BdPN as a Schron Turystyczny (tourist shelter with no overnight-stay function, unlike the former PTTK lodge). Open Tuesday to Sunday from 8am until sunset, closed Monday for maintenance.
