The place

Saint-Maurice chapel at 473 m in the hamlet of Saint-Maurice-d'Échazeaux, commune of Corveissiat (Ain, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), overlooking the confluence of the Valouse and the Ain by about 200 m. 14th-century building that has undergone very few changes since: simple plan with a rectangular nave extended by a flat-ended apse choir, barrel vaults reinforced by a transverse arch in the centre of the nave. Listed as a historic monument in 1941. From the top of the cliff, over 250 m high, panoramic view over the Château de Conflans (13th century) which once guarded the Burgundian border, over the confluence of the Ain and the Valouse, and over the ruins of the Château de Mont Didier (13th century), currently under archaeological excavation. Access by vehicle or marked path from Corveissiat, 1h to 1h30 walk.
