The place
Recently renovated Swiss Alpine Club hut at 2610 m in the Engadine, municipality of Pontresina (Grisons), at the heart of the Bernina group with a breathtaking view of the surrounding peaks and the imposing glacial world (Val Roseg, Vadret da Roseg). Access from Pontresina station heading south via the Val Roseg to the Hotel Roseggletscher, then up the valley past a glacial lake to the foot of the Vadret da Roseg; the western moraine is crossed to reach the hut (~2h30). Capacity of 80 beds with separable spaces for groups. Typical opening seasons: early March to early May (winter) and mid-June to mid-October (summer). Base camp for summit climbs, rock climbing on equipped crags in summer; ski touring and training courses in winter.
