The place

Emergency shelter only (just in case...) A single, completely empty room with a concrete floor and no window, 5m by 4m! Very poor insulation (3 sides in stone and one wooden side that clearly lets light through, and hence cold). But it does allow you to stay dry and out of the wind if needed. Located near the small Nant Debout stream. Water in abundance (spring, small wash-house and stream). Firewood in the nearby forest. The Notre Dame des Neiges chapel is about 45 minutes away. A second, smaller building also provides shelter: it's a former barn with a large tarp on the floor, clean, and possibly usable for sleeping. No particular comforts. The most direct and usual access is via the Balme de Thuy (just before Thônes), or on the way down from the Plateau des Glières via Notre Dame des Neiges. These chalets are about 25 minutes from [->118], right by the forest track heading towards the Plateau des Glières. Group of private chalets
