The place

This chalet is split into two parts separated by a central wall. Both parts are accessible, the second reached through an unlocked door in the central wall. Each part is fitted with a table, benches and a wood stove. The stove in the first part is of a particular type. It has a large hotplate covering its whole top, and this plate is covered with a lid. Overall it is in fairly good condition and can host about fifteen walkers. No water nearby, but a little further down, very close to the Refuge des Places, there is an interesting ferruginous spring. From this refuge, you are about 1h/1h30 from the mystical Grand Ventron upland pasture. From the village of Le Ventron, head towards "Le Chety" then take the old Grand Ventron road towards the Refuge des Places. Before the big bend just below this Refuge des Places, there is a footpath on the left side of the road. It signposts the direction of the Orbi and then the Chalet Vaxelaire. About 3 km on foot from the junction with the road. The refuge is also reachable via the semi-driveable track found past the Refuge des Places, but this is a much longer walk.
