Chalet Supérieur des Praz du Mont

The place

Large wooden building at 1393 m in the Aiguilles Rouges sector (commune of Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, Haute-Savoie). Part of it serves as a cowshed (strong smell); on the ground floor, two large picnic tables with benches. Upstairs, two small rooms with a bed and mattress. Poor insulation, numerous cracks. No stove or fireplace, spring nearby. Since 29 October 2022, the barn has been fully locked and sleeping there is no longer possible — no longer consider this an unstaffed refuge. Vehicle access up to the hamlet of Le Mont above Sixt, then a waymarked forest trail towards the Dent de Verreu, about 1h15 on foot.
