Chalet Saint-Hubert
The place
Unstaffed refuge set at 887 m in the Hautes-Vosges, Hautschires or Vosges passes sector (Haute-Saône / Vosges, Grand Est region). Notable position on the access trail to the Grand Brézouard or the Col de Chamont, close to the Refuge du Brézouard and the Refuge de la Fontaine Hunoltstein (about 2 km). Simple open-access building, a rustic stopover for hikers looping through the southern Hautes-Vosges. On some of the doors of huts in the area, dates of past break-ins can still be seen — a reminder of the sometimes rough use these Vosges shelters see. Typical Vosges forest setting: beech-fir stands on the Alsace and Lorraine slopes, Club Vosgien trails, landscapes typical of the Vosges mid-mountains. Iconic wildlife: roe deer, wild boar, Jura chamois, red squirrel, and capercaillie in preserved areas. Located on the edge of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park and the Vosges ridge trail (GR 5).
