The place

A really lovely cabin set in a shady clearing. Nearby are a small pond, a fountain, a picnic area and latrines. There are also two annexes which, like the main refuge, are unfortunately locked following acts of vandalism. Given the dilapidated state of the Chalet de Gaulia, located in the neighbouring forest of the same name and likewise close to a vehicle track, this measure seems entirely understandable. However, with the agreement of the local forestry services, it may be possible to spend a night here. Several marked access routes are possible. The quickest route starts from the car park at the end of the Rhonne forest road (640 m), near the Couloir de la Pierre du Mort. Follow a discovery trail heading west to join a forest track, which quickly brings you to the refuge. ONF Albertville: 04 79 10 48 20.
