Sleeping spots on mattresses: 12 Let's be clear: what's written on the door, "refuge," is something of a misnomer! This is in fact a former sheepfold more or less (rather less, actually...) converted into a makeshift shelter... Inside, it's the old stable — one single large room, nothing more, nothing less. The floor has been left as it was, with the central drainage channel... and the feeding trough running the full length of the building. In one corner, a wooden sleeping platform has been set up, holding a few mattresses in plastic covers in a fairly unflattering state. Room to sleep about 5 people. Otherwise, there's space, and nothing stops you sleeping on the floor — I counted a dozen mattresses. For the record, there used to be a makeshift "stove" in the middle of the single room, sitting on the floor, whose ridiculously small size suggests it must have extremely limited efficiency given the size of the room and the ceiling height. It has disappeared (2020). The roof, in places, shows some signs of weakness; some corners of the shelter must let water in when it rains. Wood available nearby. As for water, there's no fountain — the only water source is 50 metres from the refuge, straight from the Bar stream (water must be treated given the presence of pastures nearby). Park at the "Les Chaffauds" car park. From there, walk up following the direction of Drizon and Chaurionde, starting on a forest track (with quite a few junctions and almost no signage), then via a small forest path that passes right under the ruin of the Grange Solliet.
