Chalet du Mont
The place
Partly private alpine chalet set at 1185 m in the Bornes-Aravis massif (Haute-Savoie), a few kilometres south of Thônes. A notable spot on the trail leading to the Col des Nantets from Montremont. Mixed-use building: the private section is reserved for the owner, but access remains possible for passing hikers. Typical forested and pastoral setting of the Bornes-Aravis: beech-fir woods, summer-grazing meadows, dairy-farming landscapes (Reblochon de Savoie PDO production, the famous Aravis cheese). Iconic wildlife: chamois, marmot, roe deer, red squirrel, peregrine falcon on the limestone cliffs, golden eagle. Located on the edge of the major hiking routes of the Bornes-Aravis massif (Tour des Aravis, themed trails from Thônes and Manigod). A pleasant stop for hikers looping at the foot of the range's iconic summits (Sulens 1839 m, Pointe de Belchamp 1801 m).
