Chalet de Retord

The place

Unstaffed refuge at 1989 m in the Beaufortain (Savoie), made available to hikers and hunters according to a sign on one of the walls. Capacity 10 places. Recent reports: well maintained, equipment present (plenty of firewood, newspapers, matches). Good insulation; the wood stove smokes slightly when lit but works well afterward, uses fuel fairly quickly. Access from the car park near La Grande Maison via the trail to the Lac du Plan du Jeu: around 1940 m, a faintly marked trail (June 2012) heads left toward the Chalet de Retord. A recent 4x4 pastoral track (black dotted line on IGN/Géoportail) also leads there from a junction above the Chalet de Bizard.
