The place

A former alpine pasture chalet, now restored, the Chalet de Montartier-Dessous is a modest unstaffed high-altitude hut located in the Lauzière massif in Savoie. The living room is lit by a large gable-end window, fitted with two large tables with benches, and sleeping is on the mezzanine in the southern part. Six sleeping places are available, four of them on mattresses. Access is from the Chalet de la Place du Dîner via a trail that climbs in switchbacks through woods, in about 1h30 to 1h45. The sign fixed above the door lintel gives 1520 m, a value consistent with the map.
