The place
Sleeping capacity: 12 Mattress spots: 4 Inventory updated 09/05/2026 - A tap at the entrance, but it doesn't run during winter. A stream flows 30 m away, useful for filling water bottles. Warning: the water from this tap is questionable (see comments) - A stove that smokes a bit too much (several cracks in the flue and gaps near the plates), but with a strong output for heating this rather large refuge. - A good-quality saw, but for firewood you need to walk a little way up (or down) to find a good quantity of dead branches (arcosses). So no "real" firewood. - 3 mattresses in total, for 4 mattress spots - Rather poor insulation: the two annex rooms on the ground floor used as woodshed and cellar are poorly insulated and therefore cool down the central room. - Note that there are two sleeping areas upstairs: A mezzanine right above the stove, which will therefore be nice and warm at night, but only holds about 6 spots, and the adjacent room (above the cellar, which is much colder) holding between 6 and 8 spots. - Note the presence of lighting via 3 inactive fluorescent tubes outside of summer / hunting season - Cupboards - A large table, 2 benches and a chair - a broom, two handle-less shovels - A splitting maul with a broken handle - crockery (bowls, plates) - assorted pans, pots According to a message from the shepherdess (valid from 2025+?), she occupies it in July GSM network: outside the cabin, signal is very intermittent and poor (Orange), barely usable for texts; moving west along the edge of the grassy terrace, reception improves somewhat, but it's unreliable From Aiguebelle in the Maurienne valley, follow Montsapey via Randens, then head toward the place called "Tioulévé". A car park awaits you there with a map explaining the "tour des alpages". A moderately drivable track then continues straight ahead for 1 km to the platières car park; the Lac Noir stream is crossed just before reaching the car park. Leave the track at the hairpin bend for a well-marked footpath. At a fork (1413 m) take the right, then straight ahead at the next one; you emerge in the alpine pasture below the chalet.
