Chalet de la Montagne des Génisses
The place
Unstaffed pastoral cabin set at 2,070 m in the Beaufortain massif (Savoie), Tarentaise sector — accessible via the Col des Tuffs and the Col des Génisses from Aime. Restored in 2012, the cabin is clean but has basic comfort: poorly insulated, sleeping capacity on a loft for about 3 people, water nearby, no mattresses, no window. A dead-end position, so easily reached from above but with no through traffic. An exceptional mineral setting in the Beaufortain and upper Tarentaise: subalpine grasslands, larches, panoramic views of the range's peaks (Mont Blanc in the background, Pierra Menta, Aiguille du Grand Fond). Iconic wildlife: chamois, marmot, ibex (reintroduced in the nearby Aravis), golden eagle, alpine ptarmigan, black grouse. A stop on trails linking the Beaufortain to the Tarentaise and the pass loops (Tuffs, Génisses, Bresson). Close to the AOP Beaufort cheese-producing valley.
