Chalet de Chalimont
The place
Chalet-refuge set at 1257 m in the municipality of Saint-Julien-en-Vercors (Drôme), in the heart of the Vercors Regional Nature Park. Notable location on a wide flat area characteristic of the Vercors high plateaus, near the historic site of Valchevrière (a village destroyed in the Second World War, marked by the 1944 fighting of the Vercors maquis). Advance booking required through the local tourist office — a €100 deposit was required according to user reports (March 2025); contact should be made at least the day before your stay. Exceptional setting in the central Vercors: beech-fir forests, subalpine meadows, emblematic limestone cliffs. Wildlife emblematic of the Vercors Regional Nature Park: chamois (reintroduced population), ibex, marmot, black grouse, golden eagle, peregrine falcon. A stop on the Vercors' themed loops and access towards the Brèche de Chalimont via the historic Valchevrière site. A central location for exploring the historical memory of the Vercors maquis.
