Chalet communal des Violettes
The place
Communal pastoral cabin set at 1725 m on the eastern slope of the Grand Rocher (Maurienne, Savoie), along the 4x4 track that crosses the alpine pasture. Reserved for the shepherd during the summer grazing season. In winter, a small space with a table and benches is open at the back of the chalet, but with no sleeping arrangements or heating available. Remarkable position above the Col de Merdaret; the chalet only comes into view at the last moment on the left when coming from the pass. Mineral and pastoral setting of the high Maurienne valleys: subalpine meadows, high-altitude larches, panorama over the Arc valley and the neighbouring massifs (Lauzière, Belledonne, Vanoise). Emblematic wildlife: chamois, marmot, golden eagle, alpine ptarmigan. Located on the fringe of the major Maurienne-Belledonne-Lauzière hiking routes. Winter stop for a quick break only — the pastoral use should be strictly respected.

Eastern slope of the Grand Rocher (Maurienne), 4x4 track from Col de Merdaret. Winter space at the back of the chalet — no sleeping arrangements.
