Cayolar Ganagerre

The place

Former collective pastoral cayolar at 1310 m in the Basque Country (Soule), still owned by a group of herders and open to hikers. A cayolar — or "olha" in Souletin Basque — is a shepherd's cabin used during transhumance, where some herders still make summer cheese. Basic facilities with a fireplace and water source nearby. Located on the loop around the Gorges d'Ehüjarre from Urrutia (RD113) and on the west-east traverse of Soule.
