Casera Pecòl di Chiàula bassa
The place
A former summer pasture hut (casera) located in the municipality of Paularo, in the Vallone di Pecòl di Chiàula in the heart of the Carnic Alps (Friuli-Venezia Giulia). The building, bordered by CAI trails 454 and 458, marks the entrance to the valley from the hamlet of Casera Ramaz, reachable by car from Paularo. From there, trail 454 climbs to Casera Pecòl di Chiàula Alta and then to the Rifugio Pietro Fabiani (1539 m) in about 2 hours, allowing routes onward to Monte Lodin, the Cuestalta, and the Straniger Alm on the Austrian side. Free bivouac, open year-round.
Getting there
From Paularo, a 6 km road to Casera Ramaz, then CAI trail 454 towards Pecòl di Chiàula and Rifugio Fabiani (~2 h from Ramaz).
