Casera Montemaggiore
Casera Mamaiou
The place
Former summer alpine hut at about 1729 m in the valley of the same name in the Forni di Sopra sector, in the Carnic Dolomites (Friuli-Venezia Giulia). Also known as Mamajou, the building used to be staffed and open to the public from June to September; it is now abandoned. The site remains an important waypoint: immediately nearby stands the Bivacco Francescutto (1748 m), an open refuge founded in 1992 by a group of mountain friends from San Giovanni di Casarsa, which offers eight beds and serves as a base for routes between Clapsavon and Monte Lagna. Reached from Forni di Sopra in about 2 hours via CAI trails 210, 211 and 211A.
