The place
Forest refuge of the Monti Iblei set up in the Monte Santa Venere regional estate, near Monte Lauro, in the inland southeastern zone of Sicily. The building has water, toilets, a kitchen and a fireplace, complemented outside by an equipped area with wooden tables and fountains. The area preserves a rich understory of wild orchids, dry-stone walls, terraces and rock-cut dwellings testifying to a long human presence. Access is regulated as part of the "rifugi aperti" scheme organized by the Sicilian forestry administration.
