Cascina Stavello
The place
A high-altitude farmstead (cascina) set on the heights between Valsassina and Valvarrone, in the Lombard Prealps of the northern Lecchese. The nearby Bocchetta di Stavello site is a key stage of the Alta Via della Valsassina between Monte Legnone and the Rifugio Casera di Varrone: it holds important remains of Linea Cadorna military structures and the only water point on the whole traverse. The cascina itself continues this tradition of pastoral occupation and passage, accessible via ridge trails from Premana, Pagnona, or the alpine pastures on the Legnone side.
Getting there
Stage on the Alta Via della Valsassina, between Monte Legnone and Rifugio Casera di Varrone. Access via ridge trails from Premana or Pagnona.
