The place
Casa de abrigo at 22 m on the Fajã da Rocha do Navio, parish and municipality of Santana (Madeira), created to support the marine-only nature reserve of the same name. The reserve extends between Ponta do Clérigo to the east and Ponta de São Jorge to the west, and between the maximum high-tide line and the -100 m isobath, including the Ilhéu da Rocha das Vinhas and the Ilhéu da Viúva. Part of the Santana Biosphere Reserve. Maximum overnight capacity of 8 people: 2 rooms with 2 bunk beds each (4 places) plus 4 places in the loft. Pedestrian access via a steep cliff path offering splendid views over the marine reserve. The IFCN does not operate the cable car serving the fajã — rates, timetables and conditions should be requested from Santana town hall.
