The place

Basic 2-bunk bivouac at 1,041 m in the Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park (Canterbury, NZ), between the Rangitata and Rakaia rivers. Free. No maintained DOC trail to the bivouac: navigation with map/compass/GPS required. Unbridged river crossings: do not attempt in flood, check the NIWA forecast before setting out.
